A series of events to discuss Scotland’s ambition for building 20-minute neighbourhoods.
The ALLIANCE Health and Social Care Academy, Disability Equality Scotland (DES) and Mobility Access Committee for Scotland (MACS) new event series explores the benefits and challenges of a 20-minute neighbourhood.
The 20-minute concept has gained attention internationally and has been developed in cities such as Melbourne, Portland and Paris. The concept looks at having all your basic needs – health and social care, shops, work hubs, places to socialise – met within a 20-minute walk, wheel or cycle from where you live.
The Scottish Government’s 2020-21 Programme for Government (this link will take you away from our website) announced the ambition of 20- minute neighbourhoods and the concept has gained significant traction since the COVID-19 pandemic with people staying closer to home to access support and services.
This event series will be an opportunity to explore the benefits and challenges of 20-minute neighbourhoods and provide a space to consider what’s required to make them truly inclusive, accessible and transformational for everyone in the community.
Each event will involve a panel of expert speakers and a chair. Speakers will include those with an interest and knowledge of the themes. As part of the event there will be time in breakout rooms for participants to discuss these issues in more depth.
